There once lived a rich businessman who had a lazy and fun-loving son named “John”. The businessman wanted his son to be hard-working and responsible. He wanted him to realize the value of Hard work and honesty.

John was not serious about his studies and with god grace somehow, he completed his studies with fair marks. John’s father was rich businessman and was having good reputation in society. Since John comes from rich family and was only Son in the family his every wish was fulfilled with no time, due to this John never understood importance of Money and Hard work in his life. As the time passed John’s attitude started became rude and casual towards life, Relatives and friends. He uses to think that his father has too much money and he don’t have to work hard to earn any more money in his life.

Looking after John’s living style and behaviour towards family members One day John’s father called John and said: “Today, I want you to go out and earn something, failing which you won’t have your meals tonight.”

John was lazy and not used to any kind of work. This demand by his father scared him and he went crying straight to his mother. Her heart melted at the sight of tears. She grew restless. Since John was only Son in the family his mother helped him, she gave him a gold coin. In the evening when the father asked John “what he had earned”, John promptly presented him the gold coin. The father then asked him to throw it into a well. John who had never experienced importance of doing Hard work and earning money he casually throwed coin in the well. The father was a man of wisdom and experience and guessed that the source of the gold coin was the John’s mother.

The next day John’s father sent his wife to her parent’s town and asked John to go and earn something with the threat of being denied the night meals if he failed. This time John went crying to his sister who sympathized with him and gave him a rupee coin out of her own savings. When John’s father asked him “what he had earned” John tossed the rupee coin at him. The father again asked him to throw it in a well. John as usual did it quite readily. Again, the father’s wisdom told him that the rupee coin was not earned by his son.

The next day John’s father sent his daughter to her in-law’s house.

He again asked his son to go out and earn with the threat that he shall not have anything for dinner that night.

Unfortunately, time since there was no one to help him out; John was forced to go to the market in search of work. One of the shopkeepers there told him that he would pay him two rupees if he carried his big heavy bag to his house. John could not refuse and was full of sweat by the time he finished the job. His feet were Paining and shaking and his neck and back were aching. There were rashes on his back. As he returned home John’s father asked him “what he earned today”, and with heavy body pain and tired face John shared two rupees note before his father and as usual John’s father asked him to throw it into the well. After hearing his father’s word John was shocked and almost cried out. He could not imagine throwing his hard-earned money like this. John said: “Father! My entire body is Paining. My back has rashes and you are asking me to throw the money into the well.”

At this the John’s Father smiled. He told him that one feels the pain only when the fruits of hard work and Honesty are wasted. On earlier two occasions he was helped by his mother and sister and therefore had no pain in throwing the coins into the well. John had now realized the value of hard work. He vowed never to be lazy and safe keep the father’s wealth. The father handed over the keys of his office to John and promised to guide him through the rest of the life.

Moral: No matter from which family you come from, never take life easy and always respect it and face it with honesty and Hard work.
