The Shipwreck
I was on a cruise, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The cruise was fully booked and was a 7-day trip. After a few days, I boarded the ship with my name on the ticket, George Flyer.
It was a huge cruise. It had a water park a restaurant and even a video game arcade! I enjoyed it very much on my first day. I went to sleep and was out cold. Then something broke my sleep there was shouting everywhere I went out and saw everyone was in a panic! I asked a man about what was going on he said that there was a cyclone hitting our cruise. The crewmembers tried to change the direction of the cruise but it was of no use. The cyclone sucked the ship in it and many people were falling including me. I couldn't see anything clearly and then I felt something in my hand but I fainted before seeing what was it.
I woke up and saw myself on land! It was on the beach. But the situation was much worse - it was an island! I looked here and there to see if anyone was with me then I saw a hand. I pulled it out and saw that it was a human.
His clothes looked like he was a crewmate. He gained consciousness quickly and then looked at me and said “You. You were the one whose hand I held. Wasn’t it you?”
I was in shock. The thing I felt on my hand was his hand. I said, "Yes it was me. What’s your name?”.
” My name is Sam Curran.” We both were surprised and stared at each other for a while. We both talked and got our stories straight.
“The ship, it hit a cyclone and we must have been deserted on this island,” Sam said.
Then we both got up and started to search for other people on the coast. After what seemed like hours, we realized we couldn’t find anyone.
I said that we needed to get off that island. Sam agreed but he said that our bigger objective is to find food and shelter. We then went into the dense forest to find shelter. As we trudged along, I spotted a sharp bone underneath a rock. Although it was a worrisome find we could use it as a tool.
While we were searching for shelter, we came across a cave that wasn’t in very good shape. But as it was getting dark that was our only option. I told Sam about the bone I found and he shouted with joy. I asked him why he was happy. He said with a small smile, “I used to be an adventurer but due to some issues, I gave up that profession. Then he mentioned that a sharp object was one of the keys to survival and took the bone from me. He lit up a fire and we fell into a fitful sleep.
The next morning when we woke up, Sam said that we needed to find food. I agreed with him because he was more experienced in this situation than me. While we were in search of food, Sam told me not to move a muscle.
I asked, “Why? Is there something that you want to show me?”
As Sam was leading the way I could not see what was in front of us. I went in front of him and saw a lion! The lion pounced on me but luckily Sam killed the lion with the bone I gave him.
Feeling relieved, I thanked him. I suggested that we could cook the lion’s flesh and eat it and make a tool from its bones. Sam agreed but questioned how we were going to carry it as we couldn’t start a fire in the middle of the forest. I was a stitcher by profession so I said that we could make a bag out of leaves of the coconut tree and could stitch it with vines.
Sam brought me some coconut leaves and I made a bag. Then I put the dead lion in the bag.
We carried it to the cave where we spent our first night. We cooked the lion and had a decent meal. I packed the leftovers in the bag I had made. Sam made a weird looking but quite sharp tool. We decided to spend our night there. Sam warned me to always stay together if we needed to get out of here. At the sunset, I was a bit scared but I slept.
Things went on like this for a few days. Sam and I looked as if we had grown up in the forest. We had found many places to live and we had enough food. But it still felt like we were missing something vital. It was escaping.
I asked Sam if he wanted to escape. He said yes. I asked him why he didn’t tell me before, he said that he thought that I liked staying on this island. I was shocked both of us wanted to escape but we didn’t tell it to each other.
We then thought of making a boat and fleeing the island. Sam told me that we should use bamboo to make a boat as it had buoyancy. We got the bamboo and started making the boat. We used the vines of the banyan tree as the rope to hold the bamboo together.
It took us more than two days to make a boat. We couldn’t take many supplies with us as the boat would sink. Sam asked me if we should take the risk, I desperately wanted to get off the island so I agreed.
We brought the maximum supplies we could take and used big branches as oars. We set off. I was very happy thinking that there was a chance of returning back to our normal lives. As the supplies were limited, we needed to use it smartly.
I was very hungry and so was Sam. We took some supplies every time we got hungry. The food was finishing fast and we got more hopeless. Two days passed by like this and we ran out of supplies. It looked like we were in the middle of nowhere. I got a terrible ache in my stomach. Sam was also starting to faint. I tried to help Sam.
Then I heard a honking noise! I looked around and saw a ship. I waved at it. The people on the ship spotted us and came towards. We went to the ship. The people took Sam in the ship’s medical room. I thanked them. The people on the ship asked what happened to us. I first asked them for food.
After eating I told them the whole story. They were surprised and then I heard from someone that Sam waked up I rushed to the med bay and saw Sam. I told him after his fainting this ship was rescued us. We both hugged each other in joy.
Then after a few days, the ship came near my hometown. We thanked the people for their kindness. I didn’t live with anyone in my house so I invited Sam to live with me. He accepted the offer because he too lived alone. I think this was an ending that happens in a book or movie. But then as with every ending, we lived happily forever.
